The following is an extract from

a minute which the Secretary of State has

written recording his talk with the Archbishop

of Canterbury yesterday. You may like to

have this for record on your file.

"The Archbishop then raised the question

of a camp for refugees in the neighbourhood of

Canton. I explained to him our views as to

the best means of approaching the Chinese and

Japanese authorities and showed him a copy

of the telegram which we had sent to the

Governor of Hong Kong on June 20th. He took

note of this."
